In December 2011 Sound Division were tasked to provide audio visual production for an 'evening of magic and mind-reading' with Magic Circle magician Nick Einhorn. Nick had previously performed on the BBC's 'Penn &Teller: Fool Us' and featured on ITV's Daybreak, but this time he was gracing the stage, built by Sound Division, in the Annie and Samuel Levy Hall at Mill Hill Synagogue. He is a greatly sought after magician and has previously won the Magic Circle's Close-Up magician of the year award.
The show was to be the final fundraising event to be held in the venue before it was demolished to make way for a new multi-purpose community hall due to open in February 2013. This special event played to a packed house of more than 250 people.
To meet the technical requirements of the evening, Sound Division supplied a stage lighting system consisting of Source 4 Juniors to provide general illumination. In addition a number of Chauvet LED uplighters were used to add colour and visual impact to the stage and surrounding area.
As part of the stage set, two 6'x4' fast-fold projection screens were erected either side of the stage with two 3000 ANSI Lumens Panasonic projectors to display Nick's logo and showreel as well as a live video feed from a roving on-stage camera operator providing close-up shots of various card tricks. A Kramer switcher enabled these sources to be changed seamlessly to keep up with the action on stage.
To provide the highest quality sound reinforcement for the audience, a 4-way Nexo PS8 speaker system was set up. Nick was fitted with a DPA headset radio microphone system, which is discreet and lightweight, ensuring that Nick was not restricted in his movements and could be heard clearly. A pair of roving Shure ULX radio microphones were also provided for audience participation. The entire system was controlled through an Allen & Heath 12-channel live mixing desk.
To ensure the evening ran smoothly Sound Division supplied an experienced technical crew to engineer both the sound and video from a control point set up to the side of the stage.
Jason Greenspan, organiser of the event, was impressed with the performance of Sound Division in the execution of the event, "It is rare that you see such a high standard of production in a community hall. It was a fantastic evening and was greatly helped by Sound Division's technical support. The feedback from the evening was enormously positive."
Sound Division MD, David Graham was pleased with another successful event, "It was a very enjoyable show and Nick is an amazing magician."
