Sound Division trips the Light Fantastic
The Sound Division Group has recently completed a significant audio installation in one of the most sophisticated and sought after nightspots in London, the Light Bar in St Martin’s Lane hotel. Designed by Philippe Starck, the bar is a visual masterpiece that takes the concept of atmospheric lighting to new heights. The space is decorated by shafts of vibrantly coloured light emanating from huge 25’ voids in the ceiling while the walls are adorned with huge, quirky black and white portrait photos from renowned photographer Jean Baptiste Mondino. However, equally important in creating the atmosphere is the audio. To that end, the Light Bar recently turned to Sound Division to upgrade their sound system to cope with the increasing demands being made of it as the bar’s reputation continues to grow.
Sound Division’s Elliot Patterson opted for a solution from JBL. “We installed a total of sixteen JBL Control 25 AV monitor speakers in a distributed audio system throughout the space,” said Elliot. “The client needed a system that would deliver high quality background sound during the week, but was capable of handling greater loads when the system was pushed harder on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The Light Bar is becoming well known for some of London’s hottest DJs on those nights, so it was important that the system could handle it without compromising on quality. We’ve had extremely positive comments so far, so we’re pleased with the results, as is the client.”
