Citizens UK 100 Days of Peace Flash Mob at Euston Station
On Saturday 9th June 2012 over 3000 Londoners gathered in groups in a selection of spots across the capital to help launch Citizens UK's CitySafe campaign. The campaign encourages local businesses to offer their premises as CitySafe Havens and helps young people and adults to build stronger relationships with their peers, the police and neighbourhood organisations. Events around the capital included giant Chinese dragons in Soho and a street party with Levi Roots in Clapham.
As part of this campaign, a flash mob made up of students from Maria Fidelis School and their friends was organised to perform a dance routine at Euston Station. This was to launch Citizens UK's '100 Days of Peace' initiative which draws on the ancient Olympic truce where 50 days before the games and 50 days after the games communities practiced peace to let athletes travel safely.
Sound Division were asked to supply a sound system to be set up on the main concourse. This had to provide enough volume to draw attention to the performance. To the surprise and delight of commuters in the station, a flash mob descended onto the concourse and performed a high energy dance routine. Engineered by Raffi C, a 3kW Electro Voice SX four stack 2-way system was set up directly underneath the departures and arrivals board in the main concourse with a small stage platform for speeches. A Soundcraft mixing desk and a Denon pro CD player were used to playback a Beyonce track which had to be timed to play at exactly 12:11am and 13:11am, the only times when there was a clear four minute gap between tannoy broadcasts.
The event was hugely successful in raising awareness of Citizens UK's 100 Days of Peace initiative and Sound Division were delighted to have been involved with such a worthwhile and engaging campaign.
